Living - and Creating Value in the BANI Era
We used to think the world was Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous (VUCA).
But recent years — marked by pandemic shocks, war, AI breakthroughs, climate emergencies, and rising social unrest — have revealed something deeper:
We're living in a world that's Brittle, Anxious, Nonlinear, and Incomprehensible — a world best described by BANI, a framework introduced by futurist Jamais Cascio.
What struck me most when I first encountered BANI wasn't just the accuracy of the concepts. It was how emotional the framework is.
BANI doesn't just describe systems — it names how many of us feel: overwhelmed, unsettled, and aware that our old ways of thinking no longer help us move forward.
We haven't just stepped into the BANI era — we've been here for a while. The real question is:
👉 How do we live, lead, and create value inside it?
What I've come to realize is that in a BANI world, value creation can't rely on predictability or linear growth. Instead, it emerges through empathy, adaptability, transparency, and the ability to sense and respond to shifting realities.
This LinkedIn article series explores how BANI reshapes how we innovate, collaborate, and build — and why embracing uncertainty may be our greatest asset.
