Reality Events
Why should we focus on topics like reality? Isn't reality always with us? It is, but when it comes to navigating change, understanding reality becomes crucial. Change disrupts our sense of what's real for everyone involved, and to manage it effectively, we need to ensure these changes are centered around people.
Moreover, we are increasingly immersed in a reality of our own making. This isn't just about the physical structures or objects around us; we now live in a digital environment where our thoughts, images, and conversations are shaped by complex systems. This creates a bewildering landscape for individuals. How do we reconcile this new, virtual world with the tangible, physical one we've always known?
Consider the concept of customer reality. While traditional advice like "get out of the building" or "talk to customers" remains somewhat relevant, the significance of physical presence has diminished in our post-office era. Customers are grappling with the same chaotic world, making it challenging to get straightforward answers from them.
So, how do we adapt? What steps should we take before fully embracing a new reality? Relying solely on experimentation isn't enough. Physical or virtual "labs" provide some insights, but in our fast-paced, volatile world, they often fall behind the current reality.
We need fresh approaches, and that's where Reality Events come in. These events are designed to make navigating change in our VUCA world more effective and meaningful.
Writings
The following writing shares the thought process that led to the creation of the Reality Events concept. We spend so much time in meetings (virtual or in-person) and workshops that, nowadays, we almost need a specific concept just to grant ourselves permission to engage with the 'real world'.
